On January 21st, 2021, VHS UNICEF had their first meeting of 2021! Happiest new year wishes to everyone!
As a club, we did a quick recap on our mission for new members but to also remind everyone what our goals are for this new year and why we have set them this way! Our mission is to promote and support disadvantaged children around the world.
Our current status on our fundraising campaign is $300/$1000! 1/3 of our way there!
We also have an official VHS UNICEF Spotify playlist for beginning of meetings! Please feel free to add with your phone appropriate songs for this playlist and share your music! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6X6bl6EvidCDpbSX5IO4cz
Some of our goals for this new year include:
1) Fundraisers
2) Upcoming UNICEF Pin Logo Contest! *More details will be shared via Remind!*
3) Collabs! (We always love working together with different clubs!)
4) Virtual Benefit Concert (March, more details also will follow!)
5) Officer applications/interviews (Spring)
Monthly themes we can look forward to!
January: Human Trafficking Awareness
February: Gender Equality and Girls' Empowerment
March: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
April: Climate
We later focused on our month's theme for human trafficking awareness, covering different facts such that there are between 18,000 and 20,000 victims every year who are subjected to human trafficking. We discussed how this also happens in countries with many immigrants, and how detrimental this has been as a $150 billion dollar industry. In order to establish awareness and hope, we further elaborated on how UNICEF helps, such as through strengthening child and social protection systems and improving cross-border collaboration, to name a few.
To conclude the first meeting of the year, we had wrapped up with a yearbook photo, a trivial Kahoot that included devastating facts about human trafficking and friendly yet controversial St. Louis style bagel questions, and most importantly, resources to help end human trafficking:
Hotline: 1(800) 373 - 7888
SNS: 233733 Text "Help" or "Info"
We would like to thank all UNICEF members for coming and to continue to increase our awareness about global issues surrounding disadvantaged younger generations.
